Description
This is the dessert grandma made when guests arrived unannounced. Buttery phyllo layers wrapped around a rich walnut-honey filling, baked until golden and crisp — simple, sweet, and unforgettable.
Ingredients
- 📜 250 g phyllo dough (9 oz)
- 🥜 200 g ground walnuts (1 ¾ cups)
- 🍯 100 ml honey (⅓ cup + 1 tbsp)
- 🧈 100 g unsalted butter, melted (7 tbsp)
- 🥄 1 tsp cinnamon
- 🍋 Zest of ½ lemon
- 🧂 Pinch of salt
Preparation
- 1️⃣ Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a small baking dish.
- 2️⃣ Make filling: Combine walnuts, honey, cinnamon, lemon zest, and salt.
- 3️⃣ Assemble: Layer two sheets of phyllo, brush with butter, add filling, and roll tightly.
- 4️⃣ Cut & arrange: Slice into 4–5 cm (1.5–2 inch) pieces and arrange in pan.
- 5️⃣ Bake: Brush tops with butter and bake for 25–30 minutes until crisp and golden.
- 6️⃣ Glaze: While still warm, drizzle with extra honey.
