Ingredients
- Base smoothie
- π₯€ 250 ml cold milk of choice, dairy or plant based (1 cup / 8 fl oz)
- π 120 g ripe banana, sliced and frozen (1 medium / 4.2 oz)
- π΄ 60 g soft Medjool dates, pitted (4 large / 2.1 oz)
- π₯ 30 ml tahini, well stirred (2 tbsp / 1 fl oz)
- π¦ 80 g plain Greek yogurt or thick plant yogurt (β
cup / 2.8 oz)
- Flavor and texture
- π§ 1 g fine sea salt, a small pinch (β
tsp / 0.04 oz)
- πΏ 1 g ground cinnamon (ΒΌ tsp / 0.04 oz)
- π― 5β10 ml honey or maple syrup, optional, to taste (1β2 tsp / 0.17β0.34 fl oz)
- π§ 4β6 ice cubes (about 80 g / 2.8 oz), for extra cold and thick texture
- For topping (optional but pretty)
- π° 5 g chopped pistachios or walnuts (1 tbsp / 0.18 oz)
- πΏ A pinch of cinnamon or sesame seeds for dusting
Preparation
- 1οΈβ£ Soften the dates
- If your dates are firm, soak them in warm water for 5 minutes, then drain well. This helps them blend completely smooth into the smoothie.
- 2οΈβ£ Prepare the banana
- Slice a ripe banana and freeze the slices for at least 2 hours or overnight. Using frozen banana makes the smoothie thick and milkshake like.
- 3οΈβ£ Load the blender
- Add milk, frozen banana slices, pitted dates, tahini and Greek yogurt to a high power blender. Add the pinch of salt and cinnamon.
- 4οΈβ£ Blend until smooth
- Blend on high for 30β45 seconds until the mixture looks completely smooth and creamy, with no visible date pieces. If the blender struggles, pause and scrape down the sides, then blend again.
- 5οΈβ£ Adjust sweetness and thickness
- Taste the smoothie. If you want it sweeter, add honey or maple syrup and blend again for a few seconds. For a thicker, colder smoothie, add the ice cubes and blend until they are fully crushed.
- 6οΈβ£ Serve and garnish
- Pour the smoothie into one large or two smaller chilled glasses. Sprinkle chopped pistachios or walnuts on top and dust lightly with cinnamon or sesame seeds if you like a little crunch. Serve immediately.
