Description

Crispy on the outside, chewy and savory inside — scallion pancakes are a beloved Chinese street food made from flaky layered dough filled with fresh green onions 🌱🥟. Pan-fried to golden perfection and served hot.

Ingredients

  • 🌾 250 g all-purpose flour (9 oz)
  • 💧 150 ml hot water (⅔ cup)
  • 🧂 4 g salt (¾ tsp)
  • 🌿 50 g scallions, finely chopped (1.75 oz)
  • 🌻 30 ml sesame oil (2 tbsp)
  • 🛢 30 ml vegetable oil (2 tbsp), for frying

Preparation

  • 1️⃣ In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually mix in hot water to form a soft dough. Knead for 5–6 minutes.
  • 2️⃣ Cover and let dough rest for 30 minutes.
  • 3️⃣ Divide into 4 balls. Roll out each into a thin circle.
  • 4️⃣ Brush with sesame oil and sprinkle scallions evenly. Roll into a log, coil into a spiral, then roll flat again.
  • 5️⃣ Fry each pancake in a pan over medium heat with vegetable oil until golden brown on both sides.
  • 6️⃣ Cut into wedges and serve warm 🥢
