This is the kind of dish grandma made without fuss β mushrooms, greens, garlic, and a splash of soy sauce. Simple, satisfying, and full of earthy umami flavor, itβs the perfect fasting-friendly Chinese classic.
Ingredients
- π 200 g mushrooms (shiitake or cremini), sliced (2 cups)
- π₯¬ 150 g baby bok choy, halved lengthwise (1 Β½ cups)
- π§ 3 garlic cloves, minced
- π« 15 ml sesame oil (1 tbsp)
- π« 30 ml light soy sauce (2 tbsp)
- πΆ 10 ml rice vinegar (2 tsp)
- πΆοΈ Optional: pinch of chili flakes
- π§ Salt and black pepper to taste
- π§ 30 ml water (2 tbsp) for steam-frying
Preparation
- 1οΈβ£ Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add garlic and sautΓ© for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- 2οΈβ£ Add mushrooms and stir-fry for 3β4 minutes until they begin to brown.
- 3οΈβ£ Add bok choy, soy sauce, vinegar, water, salt, and chili flakes (if using). Cover and steam-fry for 2β3 minutes.
- 4οΈβ£ Uncover and cook for 1 more minute to evaporate excess liquid.
