Hook
Shake pomegranate, lemon and a whisper of rose into a fragrant base, then top with fizz for a Middle Eastern inspired mocktail that feels like dessert in a glass.
Ingredients
- π₯€ 100% pomegranate juice, chilled: 200 ml (ΒΎ cup + 2 tbsp / 6.8 fl oz)
- π Fresh lemon juice: 30 ml (2 tbsp / 1 fl oz)
- π― Simple syrup or liquid honey: 20β30 ml (1Β½β2 tbsp / 0.7β1 fl oz), to taste
- πΉ Rose water (food grade): 2β3 ml (Β½ tsp / 0.17β0.25 fl oz)
- π§ Cold still water: 60 ml (ΒΌ cup / 2 fl oz)
- π₯€ Sparkling water or club soda, very cold: 250 ml (1 cup / 8.5 fl oz)
- π§ Ice cubes: 1β2 handfuls
- π Fresh mint leaves: 6β8 leaves, plus small sprigs for garnish
- π΄ Pomegranate arils: 30 g (3 tbsp / 1 oz)
- π Lemon slices or twists, for serving: 2 pieces
Preparation
- 1οΈβ£ Mix the base
- In a small jug or shaker combine pomegranate juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, rose water, cold still water and mint leaves. Lightly muddle the mint with a spoon to bruise it and release aroma, then stir or shake gently until the syrup is fully dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness or rose water carefully; it should be floral but not perfumey.
- 2οΈβ£ Prep the glasses
- Fill two tall glasses to the top with ice cubes. Drop pomegranate arils into each glass so some sit between the ice cubes.
- 3οΈβ£ Build the drink
- Strain the pomegranate rose base evenly over the ice in both glasses, filling them about halfway. Top each glass slowly with very cold sparkling water or club soda so the bubbles stay lively. Give each drink one gentle stir from the bottom to lift the color without knocking out all the fizz.
- 4οΈβ£ Garnish and serve
- Garnish each glass with a small mint sprig and a lemon slice or twist on the rim. Serve immediately while icy cold and sparkling.
