Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly grilled — these traditional Balkan Ćevapi are served with fresh onions and are a must-try for any meat lover!
Ingredients
- 🥩 500g ground beef
- 🐑 250g ground lamb (optional, for authentic flavor)
- 🧄 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 🧂 1 teaspoon salt
- 🧂 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 🌶️ 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 🧅 1 large onion, finely sliced (for serving)
- 🥖 Flatbread (somun or pita) for serving
Preparation
- 1. 🥣 In a large bowl, mix ground beef, lamb (if using), minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- 2. ✋ Knead the meat mixture well until smooth and sticky (about 5 minutes).
- 3. 🧊 Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for deeper flavor).
- 4. ✏️ Form small sausage-shaped ćevapi about 7–8 cm long and 1.5 cm thick.
- 5. 🔥 Grill ćevapi on a hot grill or grill pan, turning them frequently, until cooked through and lightly charred (about 10–12 minutes total).
- 6. 🧅 Serve immediately with sliced raw onions and warm flatbread.
