Ingredients

• For the meatballs
• 🥩 500g ground beef
• 🥚 1 egg egg
• 🍞 50g breadcrumbs
• 🧅 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 🧄 1 clove garlic, minced
• 🧂 Salt and pepper, to taste
• 🌿 Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
• For the tomato sauce
• 🍅 400ml tomato passata or pureed tomatoes
• 🧅 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 🧄 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 🛢️ 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 🧂 Salt and pepper, to taste
• 🌿 1 teaspoon dried oregano or basil
• For the mashed potatoes
• 🥔 600g potatoes, peeled and chopped
• 🥛 100ml milk dairy
• 🧈 50g butter dairy
• 🧂 Salt, to taste

Preparation

• 1 🥣 In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and parsley. Form small meatballs.
• 2 🔥 Heat olive oil in a pan and brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
• 3 🍳 In the same pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add tomato passata, salt, pepper, and oregano. Stir well.
• 4 🍅 Return the meatballs to the pan, cover, and simmer in the sauce for 20–25 minutes.
• 5 🥔 Meanwhile, boil potatoes in salted water until soft (about 15–20 minutes).
• 6 🥄 Drain the potatoes, add butter and warm milk, then mash until smooth and creamy.
• 7 🍽 Serve the meatballs hot over a bed of mashed potatoes with plenty of tomato sauce.
